Frozza

History

Since 1870

Azienda Agricola Frozza was established in 1870. It remains a small, family-run winegrowing estate based among the hills of Colbertaldo di Vidor, within the Valdobbiadene DOCG area.

The estate’s continuing focus is the expression of its territory through wine, supported by close involvement with its vineyards and the surrounding landscape. Its surviving old-vine material includes vines between 60 and 100 years of age in the vineyard regarded by the family as its finest site.

Present dayThe estate operates as a small, family-run producer in the hills of Colbertaldo di Vidor, within Valdobbiadene DOCG.

Terroir

The estate lies in Colbertaldo di Vidor, within the hills of the Valdobbiadene DOCG area. The surrounding landscape encompasses steep or rolling vineyard terrain together with woodland, and forms part of the UNESCO-recognized hill landscape associated with the denomination.

The estate identifies individual hillside character as an important element in its wines. Its vineyard heritage includes vines between 60 and 100 years old in the site the family considers its best vineyard.

Winemaking

Old-vine selectionA limited selection draws on vines between 60 and 100 years old from the estate’s best vineyard.
Extended maturationThe estate’s limited old-vine Vin Col Fondo selection is released after five years.

The family presents winegrowing as a direct engagement with the vines and the surrounding hills. Vineyard visits form part of the estate experience, allowing guests to walk through both the cultivated slopes and nearby woodland. The preservation and selection of vines aged between 60 and 100 years demonstrate the continuing role of old plant material within the estate.

The estate produces sparkling, semi-sparkling, still and bottle-refermented wines. Its traditional Vin Col Fondo approach involves bottling the still base wine around the waning moon at Easter and allowing it to referment naturally in the bottle. The yeast remains as sediment after fermentation, contributing distinctive aromas and supporting extended maturation. One limited old-vine selection is held for five years before release.

Philosophy

The family’s declared purpose is to enhance and express the local territory through its wines. Its approach links wine closely to work in the vineyard, familiarity with the surrounding hills and woodland, and respect for local bottle-refermentation traditions.

Hospitality is treated as an extension of this philosophy. Tastings are intended to take place in an informal family setting, while guided walks through the vineyards and woods connect the wines with the landscape from which they originate. The broader aim is for visitors to leave with a deeper understanding of wine and greater awareness when tasting Valdobbiadene DOCG.
