About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from a selection of the estate’s steepest vineyards, planted on limestone-rich slopes. Small berries, thick skins and concentrated aromas provide the basis for a wine conceived around depth and fragrance. It pays tribute to the oldest vines planted by the family’s great-grandfather, Carlo “Carlin” Vaira, in 1949.
Permanent ground cover and spontaneous vegetation have been used in the vineyards for more than five decades to preserve soil structure, encourage microbial life and support natural balance. These practices promote deeper root systems, water retention and soil aeration. Vineyard work is predominantly manual. The estate is certified organic and sustainable under Equalitas, and its farming program is designed to sustain soil vitality and biodiversity across the vineyards, neighboring fields and woodland.

Tasting profile
The 2024 has a deep ruby color. Violet leads the nose, followed by plum, cherry, blackcurrant and raspberry, with delicate balsamic tones and light spice. The palate is rich yet vibrant: freshness enlivens a core of dark fruit framed by silky tannins. The finish is long, persistent and gently balsamic, bringing together harmony, energy and enveloping depth.
Vintage notes
The 2024 growing season produced wines characterized by fresh aromas, moderate alcoholic weight and ready drinkability. Winter and mountain snowfall arrived late. Budbreak was first recorded on 11 March, followed roughly a month later by the threat of frost. Heavy rain from May created intense fungal pressure and demanded sustained vineyard work. Temperatures subsequently rose, making the season warm overall. A violent hailstorm in early August struck west-facing slopes between La Morra and Novello. The broader estate harvest ran from 30 August to 24 October and was repeatedly interrupted by rain. It was one of the most demanding growing seasons since 1972; yields were limited, while the harvested fruit retained high quality.
Label / history
The wine is inspired by the old farmers’ expression “Una Barbera che baroleggia,” used for exceptional Barbera that, after sufficient ageing, could be mistaken for Barolo. Its intended character is therefore one of depth, complexity and an ability to reveal further nuances over time.
