Sannio: the heart of Campania wine
The Benevento territory contains more than 10,000 ha of vineyards and approximately 8,000 winegrowing businesses, with Valle Telesina forming its principal concentration of viticultural activity. Ancient references by Pliny, Cato and Horace described Sannio wines through smoky and resinous characters.
The article identifies Falanghina del Sannio DOP and Aglianico del Taburno DOCG as the territory’s leading denominations and also discusses Fiano, Greco, Barbera, Piedirosso and Coda di Volpe as representative varieties. It presents biodiversity and the distinctive morphology and microclimates of Benevento as central to the identity of its wines.
