Harvest 2017: a challenge won in the vineyards

The 2017 harvest presented difficult conditions across the group’s four estates. Alessandro Cellai explained that the vineyards were managed by interpreting seasonal signals early and responding with targeted interventions. The vines reacted well despite unfavourable weather, and the expected result was slightly lower yield paired with high quality. Sicily suffered less from drought and excessive direct solar radiation than Tuscany; rain in June and July replenished soil water reserves and helped regulate thermal balance. Cellai expected the quality of the 2017 wines from Gurra di Mare and the other estates to equal or surpass the level previously achieved.
