Vendemmia 2014

The 2014 season was marked by excessive rain beginning at budbreak and continuing through harvest. Despite the difficult weather, the grapes retained good aromatic qualities and acidity, although their sugar level was slightly below that of preceding vintages.

Vineyards on less aerated ground were the most disadvantaged because limited ventilation led to greater botrytis damage. After assessing the fruit, Il Carpino concluded that the vintage could yield fresh wines but that the grapes could not support maceration followed by ageing. The estate therefore expected its 2013 Selezione to remain available for longer. Overall, the family nevertheless expressed reasonable satisfaction with the vintage.
