Cotarella presents Le Janare in Rome

The Associazione Italiana Sommelier organized a Janare presentation at the Rome Cavalieri on 13 October 2009. At that stage the range comprised Senete, Colle di Tilio, Pietralata, Cantone, Lucchero and Cantari and was sourced from a restricted 20 ha vineyard selection.

Riccardo Cotarella and Marco Giulioli presented the wines alongside Domizio Pigna, Concetta Pigna and sommelier and journalist Daniele Maestri. The discussion placed the range within Guardia Sanframondi and the wider Sannio Beneventano, emphasizing that territory shapes wine and that the line’s names refer to local places.

Cantone was presented as an experimental new Piedirosso expression. Cotarella also emphasized the strategic importance of locally rooted grapes, particularly Falanghina and Aglianico, and identified a traditional-method Falanghina sparkling wine as a future objective. Concetta Pigna concluded by recalling the strong women of Sannio traditionally known as Janare.
