The first bottle of Mamertino and the Capo Milazzo project
The Vinitaly presentation framed La Baronia as the final stage in a journey through five Sicilian territories. The project revived Mamertino on Fondazione Lucifero land where agriculture had been close to abandonment in 2011. Eight vineyard hectares were restored on a plateau surrounded by 20 hectares of ancient olive groves. Nero d’Avola and Nocera were joined by experimental research into Vitraruolo, Lucignola and Catanese Nera. The project also introduced the small, removable iron-and-stone winery and recovered natural paths through the estate. Environmental, social and economic sustainability were treated as connected objectives.
