Refosco La Roncaia: a journey through past, present and future

On 23 November 2011, La Roncaia’s staff gathered at Cergneu di Nimis with wine specialist Claudio Fabbro and Fuocolento director Nicolò Gambarotto. The group tasted Refosco from 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, using the vertical to examine the wine’s evolution.

The discussion repeatedly returned to Tibor Gal, La Roncaia’s consultant from 1999 until his death in 2005. Inspired by the Fantinel family’s desire to create an original wine, Gal devised the initial Refosco formula through an approach considered highly experimental at the time.

His vision continued to shape La Roncaia under the guidance of general manager Maurizio Rocco and the technical work of winemaker Marco Pecchiari and enotechnician Adriano Copetti. Claudio Fabbro subsequently developed the tasting into an article for the December issue of Fuocolento.
