About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The 4.5 ha vineyards are situated in Tuscany between Suvereto and Massa Marittima, across the provinces of Grosseto and Livorno. The vines average approximately 40 years of age. The vineyards were among Baron Patrick de Ladoucette’s latest acquisitions.

Label / history

The wine is made only in years regarded as exceptional and presents a modern Tuscan interpretation of a classic Bordeaux blend.

The de Ladoucette wine house traces its history to the 18th century, when Count Lafond acquired the region’s largest vineyards from an illegitimate daughter of Louis XV of France. Winemaking remained a secondary pursuit for the family, although one of Count Lafond’s white wines became a favourite of Napoleon. The estate prospered until phylloxera destroyed almost all its vines toward the end of the 19th century. Patrick de Ladoucette inherited the vineyards in this condition in 1972, took charge of the business at the age of 20 and subsequently improved wine quality while increasing the international profile of Pouilly-Fumé, Sancerre and Vouvray.
