A difficult year winds up with a good harvest
The 2022 growing season was among the most difficult of recent years because of exceptional summer heat and limited rainfall during spring and summer. The native Langhe varieties, especially Nebbiolo, proved resilient. Technological and phenolic maturity and phytosanitary condition were positive, while smaller-than-average berries brought richness, complexity and concentration. Temperature changes in the closing weeks helped sustain acidity. At Pernanno in Castiglione Falletto, vines more than 50 years old retained healthy vegetation, and sound grapes were collected at the intended stage of maturity.
