Un nuovo progetto: la Vigna Giardino

The Vigna Giardino was conceived as a place of wellbeing, work, agricultural maturity and encounters with the history and traditions of Valpolicella. Its parcel, behind Villa Betteloni, had been destined for residential development after remaining uncultivated following the last vineyard of 1987.

Recovery began with the removal of brambles and rubbish, restoration of the spring and care of centuries-old cypresses, olives and oaks. The garden’s geometry drew on medieval models, with rows and paths converging on a central point. Marco prepared the design, and Celtis australis was selected as the symbolic central tree.

The ground contains fossil-rich Lower- and Middle-Eocene nummulitic limestone and abundant humus. Native grapes and an unnamed variety originating at Monte Dall’Ora were planted. The latter ripens early and gives good tannin. Local fruit trees, a vegetable garden and herbs were added among mature trees to replace monoculture with a living agricultural mosaic.
