Fabrizio Plessi for Monteleone21: L’Anima dell’Amarone

Fabrizio Plessi created L’Anima dell’Amarone specifically for Monteleone21's monumental drying hall. The installation occupied a 12 m-high, 30 m-deep, 300 m² production space intended for columns of grape-drying racks.

Four large boats served as metaphors for Venice, travel, trade and human life. Artificial intelligence was used to create cascades of wine descending through four arches and flowing across screens installed in the boats. Rocco Plessi and Plessi Digital produced the videos, while Michael Nyman contributed the sound component.

Four bamboo racks holding grapes in Appassimento counterbalanced the digital work and anchored it to the natural process behind Amarone. The installation explored the relationship between technology, nature and human perception and was scheduled to remain open for one year.
