About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Colorino comes from Tenuta Montemasso in the municipality of Greve in Chianti, south of Florence. The estate has 30 hectares of vineyards planted on steep slopes within the Chianti Classico wine region.

Grapes

100% Colorino.

Vinification

Alcoholic fermentation and maceration take place for approximately 28 days in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, supported by periodic pump-overs and délestage.

Ageing

The complete maturation spans 36 months across stainless steel, French barriques and amphorae. The wine spends approximately 12 months in barriques before further ageing in amphorae.

Technical data

The 2019 technical sheet records 14.5% alcohol. The 2021 release is offered in a 0.75 L bottle presented in a wooden box.

Tasting profile

Deep purple-red with ruby reflections, intense and opaque in appearance. The bouquet combines dark berries with rose and violet; the 2019 profile also identifies plum, redcurrant and macerated cherry. Plum, blackberry and balsamic nuances shape the palate. The wine is rich, structured and persistent, with velvety tannins and a pleasantly bitter finish recalling rose.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18 °C. Pair with delicately spiced or sweet-and-sour dishes, soups, risottos and vegetable-based first courses. Pumpkin and chestnuts are particularly suitable.

Vintage notes

The 2019 vintage enjoyed good ripening and picking conditions.

Label / history

Colorino takes its name from the intense pigmentation of its skins, historically used to deepen the color of other wines. Here it is vinified as a varietal wine. The name A.D. 1085 refers to the earliest official document confirming vine cultivation at the Poggio Casciano estate.
