Montenidoli and the Foundation

The estate’s history is traced from marine life, Etruscan viticulture, Roman occupation and the Knights Templar to Finuccia de’ Barbi’s 1404 donation to the Hospital of Santa Fina. After abandonment during the two world wars, life returned in 1965 as children and adults cleared woods, vines and olive trees. Sergio arrived in 1968 as teacher and guide and became known as the Patriarch.

The foundation occupies two groups of houses on the high plateau. Conceived as the “big family of the little planet,” it aims to bring together different generations, races, traditions and cultures, identify shared roots and carry human knowledge from the past into the future. Proposed activities include seminars, studies, apprenticeships, practical workshops and online communication.
