About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The wine comes from Monte del Drago, northeast of Verona on the hill separating Montorio from Valle d’Illasi. The vines were planted in 1995 in calcareous soils with red clay and tuff. The estate describes 20 hectares trained to Guyot and 5 hectares under traditional Pergola Veronese, at respective densities of 6,000 and 4,500 vines/ha. Yield is 2 kg per vine. The wine has held Demeter certification since 2014.
Grapes
100% Corvinone.
Vinification
September-picked fruit receives a few hours of cold skin maceration at uncontrolled temperature. At 4% alcohol, the fermenting must is racked and separated from the skins. Fermentation then continues in stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
Four months on fine lees in stainless steel.

Vintage notes
January 2024 was slightly colder than the recent norm and considerably wetter than the preceding five years. A mild, relatively dry start to spring was followed by frequent rain in May and June, complicating vineyard work and downy-mildew control, although infections were managed much more successfully than in 2023. July brought high daytime temperatures but cooler evenings. Gentler August rains refreshed the vines and helped the earlier-ripening grapes reach full maturity. More frequent rain after mid-September slowed later ripening, but most of the crop had already been harvested, producing a very positive result.
