Nittardi Harvest Report 2024

A mild, relatively dry winter led to early budbreak in late March and early April. A later temperature drop then halted growth for approximately three weeks and returned the season to a more typical rhythm. Weekly rainfall from late April until mid-July required close canopy and plant-health management, while July and August were warm and dry.

Maremma picking began in September and advanced slowly because of showers and cool conditions. Leaf removal across most vineyards improved ventilation and sunlight exposure. Chianti harvest started in the third week of September and continued until 17 October, an unusually late conclusion. The crop was abundant, sugar accumulation was gradual and full maturity required patience. The wines developed aromatic and flavour finesse, elegant structures and lower alcohol than recent vintages; Chianti Sangiovese recalled the style of the late 1980s and 1990s.
