LONG NOW: NEBBIOLO, BARBERA E TEMPO

Long Now combines Barbera and Nebbiolo from hills between Treiso and Neviglie, where only part of the Nebbiolo-growing land lies within the Barbaresco zone. Pelissero chose to revive the once-common local practice of blending the two grapes.

Giorgio Pelissero connected the wine with the Long Now Foundation and its exploration of long-term thinking. The Foundation’s clock is designed to advance once per year and mark time for 10,000 years; part of its dial appears on the wine’s label. Brian Eno visited the cellar in March 2002 and contributed five experimental compositions based on the sound of the clock. For Pelissero, the project expresses the long time required for a newly planted vine to produce quality fruit, for a mature vineyard to reveal its potential and for wine to evolve in the cellar and bottle.
