About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Syrah grows in the Patti Piccolo vineyard in the commune of Alcamo, at 300–350 m above sea level. The site has northeastern and southwestern exposures. Its young vines were planted in 2005 at a density of 5,200 vines per hectare. The soils are fertile, and Sicily’s climate is mild and Mediterranean. The vineyard is farmed entirely organically.

Vinification

The grapes reach full ripeness in late September and are harvested entirely by hand. They are taken directly to the winery and gently pressed. Skin maceration lasts 10 days, followed by a 10-day fermentation in stainless-steel tanks at 24–26 °C.

Ageing

The wine matures for six months in stainless-steel tanks, followed by one month in bottle before release.

Tasting profile

Well-balanced, soft and elegant, with gentle spice and generous aromas and flavours. Bright cherry, mulberry and juicy dark-berry notes are lifted by a hint of black pepper.
