The World’s Largest Barrel at Roberto Sarotto Winery

The world’s largest oak barrel was inaugurated in the family’s historic Neviglie cellar on 2 July 2022. Guinness World Records judge Pravin Patel attended the certification ceremony with authorities and guests.

G.&P. Garbellotto S.p.A. of Conegliano Veneto made the Slavonian-oak vessel. It stands approximately 5.3 metres high, measures 4.70 metres in diameter and is 3.70 metres deep. Installation required about ten workers over two weeks. Its capacity is 478 hl.

The cask was dedicated “Ai Fondatori” and first received Barolo Riserva from the 2016 vintage. Its inauguration completed a three-year renovation and expansion of the winery, including computerised systems for remote management of winemaking processes and investments in environmental efficiency and safety.

The cask also became part of a charitable programme supporting cancer research at the Candiolo Institute, where Roberto’s sister Ivana has worked for many years as a researcher.
