From Paris to Maremma, in the name of Renzo Piano

On 16 September 2017, guests gathered on the Gavorrano hills to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Renzo Piano’s Rocca di Frassinello cellar and the 40th anniversary of the Centre Pompidou. The occasion introduced Rocca Beaubourg, limited to 2,000 large-format bottles. Its paired labels reproduced Piano’s first sketches for the winery and the Paris museum, appearing on 1.5 L magnums, 3 L Jéroboams and 6 L Mathusalems.

At Paolo Panerai’s invitation, Italo Rota created a 24-image photographic exhibition comparing the two buildings from unusual viewpoints; it remained open through December 2017. Visitors also viewed Rota’s Etruscan-and-wine installation and artefacts from the San Germano necropolis.

Beatrice Panerai and Nicoletta Costa Novaro Panerai unveiled the special edition in the pavilion. Renzo Piano, who had turned 80 on 14 September, joined through a filmed contribution recounting the genesis of both architectural projects and his long friendship with Paolo Panerai. Alessandro Cellai was recognised for his role as chief oenologist and Chief Executive of the DCC group.
