About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from the Pozzo and Anfiteatro vineyards in Calino, Cazzago San Martino. These hillside sites face north to northwest and occupy steep to moderately sloping ground.

Grapes

Chardonnay forms an important part of the blend, while Pinot Nero plays the defining role.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand in August and placed in crates. After chilling, the whole bunches are gently pressed to obtain only the free-run juice. Each batch is vinified separately. Primary fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks at 13–14 °C, although part of the Chardonnay ferments in new and previously used French oak barriques. Secondary fermentation takes place in bottle.

Ageing

The 1997 vintage underwent secondary fermentation and bottle ageing for a total of 162 months.

Tasting profile

Elegant.
