Vecchio Samperi Quarantennale marks the winery’s fortieth anniversary

The fortieth-anniversary celebration centred on a special Vecchio Samperi reserve begun when Marco restored the perpetual system in 1978. He had used mature wines already held in the baglio, adding wine from overripe Grillo each year and periodically transferring lower-level reserves into individual oak casks. One of those early reserves, by then averaging forty years of age and approaching 18% natural alcohol, was bottled as Vecchio Samperi Quarantennale. Its label revived Carlo Lauricella’s 1983 artwork, and the wine was presented at a dinner at Carlo Cracco’s restaurant in Milan.
