Lorenzo: a man’s name, a lifetime’s dream

Lorenzo Ferretti was born on 28 January 1846 to Pietro and Caterina at Villa a Tolli, above Sant’Antimo. A gamekeeper from a farming family, he spent years aspiring to own land. His surviving signature shows that he could write.

Lorenzo married Carlotta, ten years his junior, and they had six children. Near the end of the nineteenth century he acquired Logarelli, then little more than land with a pig shelter, and built the house to which the family moved around 1900. He died in 1916 and is believed to have been buried at Pieve Santa Restituta.

In 1950 Guido and Giovanni took part of the original Rogarelli holding, purchased adjoining land from the Argiano estate and founded a new farm. They named it Sanlorenzo in honour of the ancestor whose landowning ambition had begun the family's story. Luciano Ciolfi presents the estate as the continuation of three generations of work.
