Montalcino, all the Rosé wines of San Lorenzo to date
Luciano Ciolfi began trials to create a structured rosato suited to his own summer drinking preferences. From 2014 to 2018, approximately two barriques were produced annually by drawing juice from a Rosso di Montalcino vat and adding must from other vats. The rosato fermented and remained in barrique until the end of winter without racking or bâtonnage.
Beginning with 2019, vinification and maturation were divided between barriques and a Clavier ceramic vessel. Annual production remained below approximately 600 bottles. The retrospective covered the 2014–2019 vintages and illustrated how cool, wet years and warm, dry seasons produced markedly different expressions while retaining the line's structured style.
