A Breeze from San Polino

A summer evening at the farm

The family writes from the farmhouse during an exceptionally hot July evening. Produce from the vegetable garden includes kale, cucumbers, early tomatoes, zucchini and lettuces, while Luigi waits for the evening cool before watering the garden.

Vineyard work

The vines are holding up despite the heat and the absence of irrigation. May and early June brought substantial rain that restored soil water reserves. Current work consists of separating crowded bunches so that each cluster hangs freely and positioning the leaves individually to create a light cover against ultraviolet exposure and possible hail.

Véraison is expected to begin by the end of July and to be complete around mid-August. Harvest normally falls in the last week of September or early October.

Work in the cellar

The team is tasting and discussing Brunello di Montalcino 2021 ahead of bottling, with its public presentation scheduled for the following January. The update also records a Gold medal at the 2025 Sommelier Wine Awards for Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2019 before the family’s summer holiday period.
