Forbes: Sansilvestro is one of the top 100 Italian excellences

Forbes Italia’s 52nd issue, released in February 2022, presented a selection of 100 Italian Food & Wine excellences that included San Silvestro. Owners Paolo and Guido Sartirano described the recognition as encouragement to continue the winery’s growth and strengthen its position.

Paolo Sartirano’s path began in childhood. His father Giovanni took him into the family vineyards, into the cellar to follow the maturation of Barolo DOCG Patres and to meetings in a small Alba café where Langhe growers discussed vineyard work and the approaching season. Paolo remembered the gestures, glances and concise exchanges of those meetings as an early education in his father’s wine world.

At the time of the recognition, San Silvestro represented most Piedmont DOC and DOCG denominations through a single winery and distributed its wines in more than 35 countries. Its commercial model emphasized both quality and flexibility for importers, distributors and private customers. Following its initial expansion abroad, it was also developing its Italian market.

The account identified 2006 as the beginning of a new phase marked by ICEA organic certification and organic-wine production. Equalitas confirmation was presented as the next sustainability objective. Paolo and Guido also intended to resume face-to-face commercial relationships at fairs in Verona and Düsseldorf while continuing the family’s Langhe tradition.
