Alessandro Nannelli described Podere Sapaio’s character as a meeting between the gentleness of French-origin grapes and the toughness of Maremma, a landscape associated with former marshland. In his interpretation, the land supplies expressiveness, complexity and power, balancing the varieties’ natural elegance.

He also reflected on the strong oak influence that affected many Tuscan wines during the 1990s and early 2000s in response to demand from the United States. Podere Sapaio, he argued, had integrated wood more evenly from the beginning. The presence of several grape varieties contributed additional aromatic expression and complexity.
