Sciaranuova Festival 2024: Other Creatures

The eighth Sciaranuova Festival, directed by Ottavia Casagrande, adopted the theme Other Creatures. Its four productions focused on figures rarely placed at the centre of attention and presented contemporary Italian theatre as a field of linguistic and formal experimentation.

Emma Dante’s The Tango of the Blackcaps, performed by Sabino Civilleri and Manuela Lo Sicco, opened the programme on 19 July. Francesca Sarteanesi presented the regional premiere of Sergio on 20 July. Mario Perrotta performed Like a Kind of Vertigo: The Dwarf, Calvino, Freedom on 26 July. Tindaro Granata closed the programme with Antropolaroid on 27 July, drawing on a century of family stories and the Sicilian tradition of the cunto.

The performances formed part of the wider Cultura per il territorio programme and were staged at the vineyard theatre in Passopisciaro.
