Fattoria Selvapiana and the 40th anniversary of Vigneto Bucerchiale

The retrospective places Bucerchiale at the centre of Selvapiana’s modern history. The vineyard was first planted in 1968, lies at about 220 m and faces southwest. Francesco Giuntini insisted on a pure-Sangiovese wine despite Chianti’s former Trebbiano requirement, releasing the first vintage in 1979. The account follows the transition from large old chestnut casks through the barrique and concentration era to spontaneous fermentations, 30–35-day macerations and an equal division between small and large oak. It also records the estate’s early bottling history, the loss of its old cellar during the Second World War and Niccolò’s growing role in the cellar.
