Surani Primitivo di Manduria DOC enters Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 Best Buys
The 2020 Surani Primitivo di Manduria DOC received 91 points and a place in Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 Best Buys. The announcement also presented the project’s development: production began in 2014 at the 80-hectare Masseria Surani property, including 55 vineyard hectares, and another 45 hectares near Lizzano entered production in 2022.
The vineyards were described as high-density Guyot plantings on cool, fertile, permeable limestone soils colored ochre red by iron. Wooden row-end posts and galvanized iron intermediate supports were used, while agronomic management prioritized natural resources and biodiversity. The project remained centered on Primitivo, Negroamaro and Fiano. Grapes for the awarded Primitivo were selected from both Manduria and Lizzano.
