The Tommasi family strengthens its presence in Puglia and expands Masseria Surani

Claudio Quarta retired from the wine business and transferred Tenuta Eméra and Cantina Moros to the Tommasi family. His wine career had begun in 2005, when he left pharmaceutical research and entrepreneurship in the United States and returned to the Salento of his childhood. His daughter Alessandra joined the project in 2012 after international studies and an early career outside wine; she led the business from 2023 and remained after the acquisition.

The expansion built upon Surani’s 55 hectares at Tenuta Espéra in Manduria and the 45 hectares brought into production near Lizzano. Part of Surani’s wines had already been vinified close to Tenuta Eméra through cooperation between the two families.

The transaction added a vinification and bottling cellar and placed three Puglian components under the Masseria Surani name: Tenuta Espéra as the historic Manduria core, Tenuta Eméra for Primitivo DOC, Fiano and Negroamaro Rosé, and Cantina Moros as the home of Salice Salentino DOC Riserva. It also supported the planned growth of Surani’s wine-tourism activity and a Mediterranean project focused on territorial identity and tradition.
