Chianti: wine, region, passion

The article traces the history of Chianti from its early documentary record through the 1716 delimitation, the formation of protective consortia and the later distinction between Chianti and Chianti Classico. It then examines the family's relationship with different Chianti territories. Tenuta Castiglioni represents the gentle Val di Pesa hills: varied soils, a mild climate and Tyrrhenian breezes shape its Chianti DOCG. The estate has remained in Frescobaldi ownership since the 11th century and became the family's starting point for wine production in 1300.
