About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Cresasso is the estate cru devoted to Corvina Veronese. It comes from the highest hillside plots of Tenuta Costalunga at Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella, where the soil increasingly gives way to exposed stone—the origin of the name Cresasso. The vines grow at 300–350 m in predominantly calcareous-morainic soil rich in stones, with clay and white to pinkish-white marly limestone. Marked day–night temperature changes, dry conditions and descending air currents from nearby Valdadige allow the fruit to remain on the vine for slight overripening. The Guyot-trained vines average 10–15 years of age and carry 6–8 buds per plant. Yield is 65 quintals per hectare.

Grapes

100% Corvina Veronese.

Vinification

Harvest normally occurs in the second half of October after slight overripening on the vine. The grapes are destemmed and crushed, then ferment slowly on the skins for approximately 15 days at a controlled 22°C.

Ageing

Maturation lasts 24 months in French-oak tonneaux, followed by at least one year in bottle.

Technical data

Alcohol is 16.5%. Formats include 750 ml and Magnum.

Tasting profile

Deep ruby red with dense, persistent legs. The enveloping bouquet begins with red fruit, blueberry and blackberry, then develops more concentrated notes of black cherry, cooked plum and jam. The palate is rich, savoury and mineral, with firm tannins and a pleasantly long finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18°C. Pair with richly flavoured dishes, grilled meat, roasts, game, cured meats and mature cheeses; rich tomato-and-spice sauces are another suitable match.

Label / history

The name refers to the stony character of Costalunga’s highest plots. Conceived as a pure expression of Valpolicella’s emblematic Corvina grape, Cresasso combines the variety’s indigenous identity with the individual character of its hillside site.
