The Garden of Pojega reopens: history, nature, and wines at the Guerrieri Rizzardi estate in Valpolicella

The Garden of Pojega reopened for the 2025 season on 1 April following almost three years of restoration and enhancement financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The intervention took Luigi Trezza’s original designs as its guide, restoring the garden’s balance and paths while preserving its historic structure.

Botanical work introduced agapanthus, irises, several varieties of tulips and 21,000 daffodils of three types. More than 60 stone sculptures attributed to Pietro Muttoni were recovered. Agostino Rizzardi described the project as a way of joining the garden’s past to its contemporary public life.

Visitors enter through the estate’s 17th-century courtyard, where the wine shop is housed, and may conclude a garden visit with a glass of Pojega Ripasso or book a guided tasting. Accessibility improvements include Italian Sign Language videos, Braille tactile panels, an immersive audio guide and a version designed for children. Online ticketing and monthly guided tours in Italian and English were also introduced.
