Super Tuscan: red wines from Tuscany produced by international grape varieties

Tenuta Marsiliana’s contemporary wine project was developed by Duccio Corsini and his sister Sabina from the late 1990s. Their goal was to express the distinguishing traits of the local terroir through elegant, balanced wines.

After extensive ampelographic experimentation, they planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, varieties not native to Tuscany but established along its coast. The estate now has 20 ha of vineyards, certified organic since 2015 and managed in accordance with nature and seasonality.

The article places Birillo and Marsiliana within the Super Tuscan tradition. Birillo combines Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as a deliberately softer interpretation, while Marsiliana selects Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot for the estate’s grand vin. Both originate in Manciano and represent different expressions of the Maremma terroir.
