We’re Getting Ready for the Grape Harvest
Work begins at dawn during the weeks preceding harvest, while temperatures are still low. Teams protect vine health by ensuring that bunches receive sufficient light and ventilation and by monitoring humidity. Espalier shoots are positioned against their supports, while lateral shoots are topped to focus the plants’ energy. At Regaleali, inter-row cultivation preserves moisture to a depth of about 15 cm around the roots and helps prevent cracking in clay-rich soil. The mild, dry winter of 2022–2023 was followed by a cold, rainy spring that built water reserves before severe summer heat. The vines subsequently demonstrated strong self-regulation under the high temperatures, while the historic cellar was prepared to receive the new crop.
