I Rossi di Tenuta

The feature paired Rinazzo with Gazzerotta as Pellegrino’s two red family-estate wines and revisited the seven-year Tenute di Famiglia programme launched in 2010. The programme assigned a specific variety to each estate according to its climate and soil, with vineyard decisions made through precision viticulture.

Rinazzo was described as former Jesuit land that passed to the Pellegrino family after Italian unification. Its name was connected to rena, or sand, reflecting an austere and desert-like landscape. At that time, 11 hectares of vines were reported, six of them dedicated exclusively to Syrah.

The estate was characterised by severe thermal variation, semiarid conditions and a sandy ancient-beach soil over clay. Low nutrient availability produced small, thick-skinned berries with greater polyphenolic concentration. Syrah was selected for its ability to adapt to these difficult conditions, giving a structured, supple and spicy expression associated with clove, rosemary and black pepper.
