Irina Guicciardini Strozzi elected President of the Consorzio del Vino Vernaccia di San Gimignano
Irina Guicciardini Strozzi was elected President of the Consorzio del Vino Vernaccia di San Gimignano for the three-year term ending in 2022. The consortium’s newly elected board chose her at its first meeting following the members’ assembly of 28 May.
A Bocconi University graduate in business economics with a specialization in administration, finance and control, she had previously worked at the European Commission, J.P. Morgan and KPMG. She began contributing to Tenute Guicciardini Strozzi while studying and, five years before her election, made the family company her sole professional commitment, taking responsibility for export markets from its Cusona headquarters.
Her election also continued a family tradition. Her father, Girolamo Guicciardini Strozzi, signed the request for Vernaccia di San Gimignano’s 1966 DOC recognition, helped found the consortium in 1972 and served as its first president until 1987 and again between 1993 and 2000. Irina framed the role as both an opportunity to continue female leadership within a male-dominated sector and a responsibility toward her family’s long-standing commitment to Vernaccia. Her programme centred on raising the profile of the denomination and its grape and using Vernaccia’s history and distinct identity as an engine for the territory’s growth.
