Piccini 1882: the wine project of the Piccini family

Torre Mora’s vineyards were identified in Contrada Dafara Galluzzo and Contrada Moscamento at Rovittello, and in Contrada Alboretto Chiuse del Signore at Linguaglossa. The estate’s work was defined by organic and sustainable viticulture, high-density planting, low yields, traditional practices and respect for local grape varieties and culture.

The vineyards occupied loose, fertile volcanic soils at high altitude, with strong day–night temperature variation. The shallow, acidic soils were described as rich in minerals and trace elements deposited by volcanic eruptions. Vines ranged from 10 to 25 years old, with spurred cordon used on limited flat ground and alberello training on terraces.

Nerello Mascalese was positioned as the principal variety, Nerello Cappuccio as its partner in Etna reds and Carricante as the protagonist of Etna Bianco. The estate’s philosophy was summarised as “one grape variety, one territory.”
