About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The grapes come from Alta Maremma in the Colline Metallifere area. The clay soil has a medium-to-high proportion of stones. Vines are planted at 8,500 per hectare, trained to Guyot and managed through integrated pest management.

Grapes

Equal parts Traminer, Riesling and Chardonnay—an atypical blend for the area.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand into 15 kg crates during the third week of August. They go directly to the press, after which the must undergoes static clarification and ferments in stainless steel.

Ageing

Approximately 6 months in second- and third-use French barriques.

Technical data

Average production is 3,000 bottles.

Tasting profile

Brilliant golden yellow. The complex nose brings together ripe peach, apricot, orange peel and tropical fruit in an elegant aromatic profile. The palate is fresh, with nuances of honey and vanilla, pronounced acidity and a long, generous finish. A firm acidic backbone sustains the wine.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 10–12°C. Pair with grilled or fried fish, white-meat main courses, vegetable-based dishes, medium-aged cheese or seafood.

Label / history

First produced in 1999, Lodano Bianco originated with Rita’s belief that the local climate and soils could yield a compelling white wine from an unconventional regional blend. Production remains limited each year.
