Sustainable agriculture courses in Sicily: where to train in 2026

The article considers why drought, erosion, volatile markets and agricultural policy are increasing the need for practical sustainability training. It recommends evaluating programs by their balance of fieldwork and theory, the experience of their teachers, their continuity and their grounding in local conditions.

SPAE offers nine two-day modules across 2026. The sequence covers agroecological principles and farm design, biodiversity, soil biology, water, animals, markets and community, agricultural policy, decision-making in complex systems and a final whole-farm design module. Researchers, agronomists and working farmers teach in the cooperative’s fields. Individual modules are available for €120 including lunches, while the concluding design module is reserved for full-program participants. No previous experience is required.
