About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The 2023 wine comes from the 1.2 ha Vie di Romans vineyard in Mariano del Friuli, within Friuli Isonzo Rive Alte. The vines have an average planting age of 11 years and grow at 31–32 m, in rows oriented north–south and east–west. Planting density is 7,800 vines/ha, with a 1.60 × 0.80 m layout and simple Guyot training.

The medium-deep soil has abundant gravel and pebbles within a silty-clay texture. Its upper layer is decalcified, while the deeper layer is calcareous. Drainage is good and water-retention capacity is low. The producing area covers 1.2 ha. Yield in 2023 was 4,760 kg/ha, equivalent to 0.61 kg per vine.

Grapes

100% Pinot Nero. The grapes were harvested on 11 September 2023.

Vinification

The fruit was destemmed and crushed. Skin contact lasted 18 days with punch-downs. Fermentation took place in stainless-steel vats for 11 days at 18–24°C, using selected yeast strains. Malolactic fermentation was completed.

Ageing

The wine matured for 18 months in barrels and then spent 1 month in steel while natural clarification was completed. It was bottled on 4 February 2025 and aged in bottle for 19 months.
