Compost: Let’s Get Our Hands Dirty!
Branches, pine needles, leaves and small pieces of wood are chipped at the estate composting area, piled and mixed with farm manure. The heaps are regularly turned with an excavator over approximately one year to introduce air and support decomposition.
The mature result is a dark, nutrient-rich humus returned to vineyards, gardens and fields. Some heaps consist primarily of vineyard prunings, turning a major agricultural residue into a soil amendment within the farm’s circular system.
