Roman Garden: 150 Days of the Viridarium
The Viridarium was loaned by sister estate The Newt in Somerset after being created for the Chelsea Flower Show. The installation recalls the ornamental gardens of ancient Roman villas and pays tribute to archaeological research conducted for 30 years in the Upper Greve valley by the San Michele Group, with support from the Florence Archaeological Superintendence and the Municipality of Greve in Chianti.
A nine-stage audio route led through a colonnaded garden with fountains, water features and more than 500 ornamental and medicinal plants. Entry and the audio guide were free, with daily visiting hours from 10:30 to 18:30 during the installation.
