Terre Tollesi/Tullum
Detto anche Tullum
Terre Tollesi — or Tullum, the old Latin name — is a DOCG of a single commune: Tollo, in the province of Chieti, in the hills between the Adriatic and the Maiella. Wine has been made here since Roman times, and remains of wine jars and wine cellars have been found in several of its districts; a document of 1062 names the castrum Tullum, and the Angevin registers of the fourteenth century record the same name. By the nineteenth century Tollo's wine was praised in dictionaries and verse. Continua a leggere ↓

Terre Tollesi in breve
The vineyards lie on hills above the valley floors, on medium-textured soils tending to clay, rich in carbonates and alkaline. Rain is about 700 mm a year, falling mostly between November and April, and the heat summations exceed 2,200 degree-days.
Tullum makes a red from at least 95 per cent Montepulciano, which may not be sold before the first of January of the second year after the harvest; a Riserva that ages at least two years, six months in wood; two whites from the native Pecorino and Passerina, each at least 90 per cent; and a sparkling wine with at least 60 per cent Chardonnay. Terre Tollesi became a DOC in 2008 and, in 2019, a DOCG — the first Italian DOC promoted in eight years.
