Vineyard and terroir
The Cabernet Sauvignon grows on a plateau in the Bolgheri area at an altitude of 200 metres. The grapes are carefully selected.
Vinification
Harvest finished on 5 October. The grapes underwent skin maceration and fermentation in stainless-steel tanks for 28–30 days at a controlled temperature of approximately 28–30 °C. Malolactic fermentation was completed in 225-litre French oak barrels.
Ageing
The wine aged for 20 months in 225-litre French oak barrels, followed by at least 12 months in the cellar after bottling.
Vintage notes
The winter of 2012 was severe, with occasional snow and sub-zero temperatures. Spring was warm with heavy rainfall, which caused no particular problems. From June, temperatures were significantly higher than in 2011 and averaged 24 °C, supporting good vine development and early fruit formation. Wide differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures during summer produced a good crop with excellent ripeness and well-balanced sweetness. Harvest began early and ended on 5 October.
