Wine and Sustainability: The B-Wine Project
Badia a Coltibuono participated in the B-Wine project promoted by Italy’s National Research Council. One estate plot was opened to researchers, who incorporated biochar into selected rows and monitored the vines for three years.
The treated vines maintained significantly better water status during the driest part of the season and delivered per-plant yields close to twice those of the untreated control. The work was conducted with Corzano e Paterno and Fèlsina, while the Biodistretto del Chianti coordinated between the farms and researchers. For Roberto Stucchi Prinetti, the results support soil management as a practical response to drought and show that attention to soil can reinforce both productivity and quality.
