Vineyard and terroir
The Ansonica comes from 80-year-old vines on Giglio, a 16 km² island off the Tuscan coast that rises to 600 m above sea level. Its vineyards occupy hand-built terraces dating to prehistoric times, some more than 1 m high and 1.5 m thick. Viticulture on the island was documented in Roman times, when it was known as the “Green Island” because vineyards covered it; its wine was transported by Roman soldiers aboard ships to the imperial court.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place partly in stainless-steel tanks and partly in oak barriques.
Ageing
Most of the wine matures in concrete tanks for 15 months, while 5% is aged in barriques.
Tasting profile
Harmonious, rich and complex.
