Vineyard and terroir
Il Pino di Biserno expresses the estate’s terroir at Bibbona. The soils combine clay with Bolgheri conglomerate. Vines are trained to spurred cordon at a density of 6,500 vines per hectare.
Grapes
Blend proportions vary by vintage. The latest published vintage, 2023, is predominantly Cabernet Franc, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with a minimal quantity of Petit Verdot.
Vinification
For the 2023 vintage, grapes were carefully selected on a conveyor belt before destemming, with each plot kept separate. Temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation and maceration took place in stainless-steel tanks for 3–4 weeks, reaching no more than 28°C. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation followed.
Ageing
The wine matured for about 12 months. Approximately 85% was aged in new and used French-oak barriques, while the remaining 15% was refined in stainless steel.
Technical data
2023: 14.5% alcohol, total acidity 5.42 g/L and pH 3.71. Toscana IGT Rosso.
Tasting profile
The 2023 wine is a bright, intense ruby red. Aromas of dark fruit and spices are joined by characteristic Mediterranean-scrub nuances and subtle toasted notes. It is full-bodied, enveloping and fresh on the palate, with soft tannins and a long, persistent finish. It has excellent ageing potential.
Vintage notes
Winter and spring 2023 were predominantly mild, while frequent rain in May and the first half of June built valuable soil-water reserves ahead of the dry summer. Together with the vineyards’ favourable location, these conditions supported optimal ripening. Picking took place only during the coolest hours: Merlot began in the final days of August, Petit Verdot followed in mid-September, and Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon were completed before the end of September.
Label / history
First produced in 2004, Il Pino di Biserno was created as an immediate, recognisable expression of Bibbona. Its profile combines aromatic complexity with depth, elegance, balance and finesse.
