Label / history
Vermouth is an aromatised wine with a very long history. Its name comes from the French adaptation of "Wermut", the German word for Artemisia absinthium, its main flavouring ingredient. The drink was first created by Hippocrates, who added wormwood, flowers, spices and honey to fermented grape must. It was refined further in the Middle Ages, when spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg began arriving in Europe from the East. In Turin in 1786, Antonio Benedetto Carpano developed the definitive recipe: a blend of wines mixed with an infusion of 50 herbs and roots.
Bottega Vermouth Bianco was created by Sandro Bottega and Lamberto Vallarino Gancia. It draws on this history while offering a modern take on it, and its style combines qualities associated with Veneto and Piedmont: creativity, innovation and a long winemaking tradition. Pinot Grigio is one of the wines most closely associated with Veneto. The bottle is elegant and refined.
It won a gold medal at The Speciality Spirits Masters.
